How do you do you solve this using calculus?
A stone is dropped from the edge of a roof, and hits the ground with a velocity of -155 feet per second. How high is the roof?
I’m just going to work with meters but I’ll convert the answer into feet.
Basically s(t) = -4.9t^2 [ since acceleration is 9.8, if you want to know how i got that, just ask]
s’(t) = -9.8t
-47.24 = -9.8t
t = 4.82
Now use that value in s(t)
s(4.82) = -4.9(4.82)^2
= -113.86m
The negative indicates you have moved down since acceleration is down, so the magnitude gives you the height.
That’s about 373.56 feet.
